Peer counselling
We support and encourage persons with disabilities to demand their rights and to live their lifes independently.
We offer discreet, individual, non-binding and requirement-oriented peer counselling. The special thing about peer counselling is that the counsellor shares many life experiences with the person who makes use of the peer counselling. They are on the same page facing all kinds of discrimination because of their disabilities on a daily basis, and therefore, they can have conversations on equal terms. It is not about telling a person what to do, but to support them independently finding a solution for problems.
Counselling is based on individual needs. In a personal talk, we offer enough space and time, so you can find out – step by step – how to improve your situation. Most important is what you want. Sometimes it is easy to find out what you want to change and how, but often it takes quite some time, strength, and courage to find out what is hindering you.
Peer counselling can be used in all walks of life: If you
- are currently in a difficult life situation,
- require information concerning public applications and financial support,
- require advice and legal support in arbitration proceedings in case of discrimination,
- have questions with regard to leisure time or holidays,
- have questions with regard to mobility, housing, and structural barriers,
- have questions with regard to partnership and sexuality,
- require clarification and want to strengthen your role as an employer when living with personal assistance,
- require crisis management and protection against violence,
- require information about assistance dogs.
The peer counselling takes place in our centres, is free of charge and confidential.
